On behalf of our firm, I am the lead patent attorney at Kim & Cho now. It is my pleasure to share our story and the values that have defined us.

Kim & Cho was established in 1953 through the partnership of its founding attorneys, Kim Ui-chang and Cho Seon-hwang. We continue to honor their legacy and the founding spirit by proudly carrying their names forward today.

In the aftermath of the Korean War, South Korea embarked on a remarkable journey of growth, fueled by the diligence and pioneering spirit of its people. Kim & Cho has been an integral part of this story, growing alongside and actively shaping the nation’s intellectual property landscape.

When I began my practice in the 1970s, the IP field was still in its infancy in Korea. From those early days, our mission was clear to provide expert, dedicated counsel in the specialized field of intellectual property. This commitment led us to become Korea’s first dedicated IP law firm.

Since our founding in Seoul in 1953, Kim & Cho has been a cornerstone of Korea’s IP history. We take great pride in having guided our clients through the entire journey of Korean IP—from its infancy and growth to its current dynamic state. By focusing primarily on intellectual property, we have earned the support and trust of renowned clients worldwide and we remain dedicated to growing in partnership with them.
